Add a medication
Today → All medications → Add medication, or Care → Medications. Name and dose are all that is required; everything else can wait.
The form
- Name — as you call it. Two medications cannot share a name while both are being taken; the app says so rather than leaving you with two identical rows.
- Dose — free text, in your own words: “1000 mg”, “half a tablet”, “2 g”. The app never calculates a dose and never suggests one.
- Supplement — a switch. Supplements are shown paler on the timeline and are named separately in the summary, because clinicians read them differently.
- Started — today by default; pick an earlier day if you have been taking it a while.
When you take it
| Schedule | Means |
|---|---|
| Every day | one or more times a day |
| Days of the week | for example Monday and Thursday |
| Every N days | counted from the start date |
| Once a month | the same day number; a short month uses its last day |
| As needed | nothing is expected on any day, so no dose is ever counted against you |
Add the times of day if you want a dose to appear on Today at a particular hour. A medication with no times still appears there and can still be marked — it just sits without a time.
Reminders work for Every day and Days of the week only; on the other three schedules the switch is off and the app says so: “Reminders work for daily and weekly schedules for now.”
An injection
Switch It's an injection on and the app will ask where each one went, and suggest where next — from your own recent places, never on a schedule of its own. See injections.
A personal note
A line only you see: “after food”, “the white box”, “Dr. Patel's idea”. It appears on the medication card and nowhere else.
From Apple Health
If you keep a medication list in the Health app, Import from Apple Health — at the foot of the medications list, under everything you take and everything you stopped, not in this form — offers those names so you do not retype them. It is read only: the app never writes to that list.
